As the Athletic Director at Schurr High School, Ms. Alcala brings a wealth of experience and expertise in both education and coaching. With over 20 years of experience at Schurr High School in Montebello, CA, she has served as a Physical Education Teacher and Athletic Coach. In addition to teaching courses such as Lifetime Wellness and Fundamentals of Basketball, she has also taken on leadership roles such as PE Department Chair, WASC Accreditation Team, and Professional Learning Series Coordinator on Inclusion & Supporting Students in Special Education, to name a few. Ms. Alcala also serves as an adjunct professor at Rio Hondo College, where she is an instructor in the Kinesiology Department.

Her coaching experience is extensive and spans a variety of sports. She has coached Varsity Boys and Girls Track and Field, Cross Country, Basketball, Softball, and Tennis at Schurr High School. Her tenure as the Varsity Head Coach and JV Head Coach for these teams has been marked by a commitment to excellence and a focus on developing well-rounded student-athletes.

At the collegiate level, she has served as an Assistant Coach for Women's Basketball at Rio Hondo College, Chapman University, and Whittier College. She collaborated with coaching staff on player recruitment, practice planning, game strategy, and fundraising. Her experience at the collegiate level has further honed her coaching skills and allowed her to mentor students interested in pursuing careers in Kinesiology.

In addition to her coaching roles, she has been selected as a clinician for prestigious basketball clinics such as the NBA All-Star Weekend, Jr. NBA Clinics, WNBA Clinics, and the Mamba Sports "Her Time to Play" Clinics. These experiences have allowed her to work with high-level coaches and players, providing valuable learning opportunities for young athletes.

With a Master's Degree in Education from Whittier College and certifications including a NFHS Coach Level 3 National Credential, she is dedicated to fostering a positive and inclusive athletic environment for Schurr’s student-athletes. She is committed to continuing to lead the athletic department to success, both on and off the field, and is passionate about the growth and development of the student-athletes through the power of sports.
