Coach Ruiz is in his first year as the head aquatics coach at Schurr High School, having previously served as an assistant and JV coach from 2017 to 2020. During his time as an assistant coach, Coach Ruiz was part of the coaching staff when the 2017 Girl Water Polo team won the Division 2 CIF Title, showcasing his early coaching success.

Several of Coach Ruiz's former athletes have gone on to compete at the collegiate level, with Varsity girls from the program participating in both Division 1 and Division 3 collegiate competitions. He is passionate about developing his team and building a successful program.

Standout moments from Coach Ruiz's coaching career include playing in CIF Finals for both the Girls and Boys programs at Schurr High School. He takes pride in the hard work and dedication required to reach such high levels of competition while working to establish a strong team culture.

Outside of coaching, Coach Ruiz enjoys listening to music, hiking, spending time at the beach, and watching major sporting events like the Olympics, World Cup, and Copa America. He acknowledges the important role his family has played in supporting his coaching journey and expresses gratitude to the Commerce alumni who inspired his coaching style through their playing prowess during his formative years. With a deep appreciation for his roots and a passion for aquatic sports, Coach Ruiz is dedicated to guiding his team to success both in and out of the water.
